People mistake age for experience, but old does not necessarily mean wise. Age is really just a gauge of opportunities past, of how many chances one has had to have experiences. An old man who spent his life doing the same thing will have had less life experience than a young man who traveled widely and experienced much.
Wisdom comes with the consideration of one's experiences. Again, age gauges how much opportunity one has had to consider one's experiences, not whether or not one actually did any consideration.
So don't get hung up on age, young or old when sizing people up. Rather consider their experiences and what they have made of them.
